2010 YF Hyundai Sonata Concept

Korean auto site YF Love is certainly living up to its name by producing a succession of speculative renderings of the 2010 YF Hyundai Sonata.

Illustration number three appeared overnight, and once again highlights the coupe-like stance, large grille and Lexus-like headlights that will adorn Hyundai’s medium-sized car.

To capitalise on the home-crowd advantage, there’s a very strong chance that the all-new Sonata will make its debut at next month’s Seoul Motor Show, ahead of a mid-year sales debut in Korea.

Among the engine options anticipated for the 2010 Sonata is a diesel/electric hybrid, which would pair a 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel engine with an electric motor.

The hybrid would use lithium-polymer batteries, which Hyundai claims are superior to the lithium-ion (LI) batteries currently available in most hybrids. The hybrid would not be plug-in capable, at least during the first model year.

A six-speed automatic transmission that has no torque converter is said to be the sole transmission for the upcoming Sonata.

Safety features should include ABS, traction control, anti-skid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags.

The Elite models will have leather upholstery and will most likely include heated front seats and automatic climate control.

A navigation system with voice recognition is rumored for the up-market models.

Hyundai will be hoping to steal sales from the Honda Accord and Mazda6 with the YF Sonata’s accent on more curvaceous looks and a host of inclusions at a bargain price.

With the high quality of Hyundai’s latest offerings and the modern sporty styling of the above rendering, there’s a good chance of things turning out that way.
